Orthopedic Surgeon,
Orthopedic Sports Medicine
Todd P. Krell, MD is a general orthopedic surgeon, who prides himself on taking an individual approach to the care of each of his patients. With more than 20 years of specialization in orthopedics, Dr. Krell has extensive experience in managing a wide range of conditions across the entire spectrum of the field, but he also recognizes that every patient is unique.
Dr. Krell considers his patients’ individual needs and constantly aims to meet them, starting with the very first point of contact and through their entire episode of care. He believes that knowledgeable patients make the best decisions about their own treatment, which is why he works aggressively to develop a partnership with each patient that enters his office.
This begins with listening, as he makes it a priority during the initial visit to understand how a physical problem is affecting one’s daily life. Dr. Krell also explains every step of the diagnostic process and develops a dialogue with each patient so they can voice any concerns and guide these activities accordingly.
Once a diagnosis has been reached, he takes the time to make sure that each patient has a complete understanding of their condition. This will include an explanation of how the problem developed and how various treatment approaches can improve or repair it. When he presents treatment alternatives, he always offers a realistic outlook on what results are possible and is frank about any risks that might be involved. Dr. Krell emphasizes that most musculoskeletal conditions can be treated by non-surgical techniques, and that surgery is just one option. If a non-surgical option is available, he will be sure to explain that avenue in depth.
Dr. Krell’s overall goal is to handle each patient visit with care and proficiency. It is extremely important to him that the doctor/patient relationship is open and honest throughout its duration. One of his primary responsibilities is to make sure all patients are well informed about their condition and the multiple treatment choices they are able to choose. He and his professional staff will also provide patients with education materials like websites, pamphlets, and video tapes to add to their knowledge and make them better informed in treatment decisions.
